Assemblies Resources for Teachers of Key Stages 1 and 2

Assemblies suitable for KS 1/2 teachers
Two new assemblies added each week suitable for all faiths and cultural backgrounds.  Database of standing assemblies indexed by subject and covering events such as leaving, bullying, change of headteacher, and death.  Rapid response section covers major incidents that may touch children's lives.

Primary resources suitable for KS 1/2 teachers
Only a few assemblies on this site but they are good ideas and include play scripts.  Assembly Names is aimed at the new school year and getting to know everyone.  PSHE Assembly script includes two scripts, and the Divali page is an assembly aimed at year 5.  Crossing the Bridge is an end of school year assembly with a charming and simple play script.  Also contains activity ideas for Christmas and Easter.

The RE site
This site, aimed at KS 1 and 2 teachers, features a very good search facility, which can be used by entering the faith required, age group and appropriate keywords.  Teachers can obtain content for drawing up their own assemblies across many subjects.  Many of the themes are accompanied by video content, audio clips, activity and drama ideas.

School assemblies for busy teachers
A large collection of assemblies suitable for KS 1 and 2 teachers can be downloaded and adapted to meet school requirements.  Honesty, talents, school leavers, Chinese New Year, and suffering are among the themes covered.  A translator feature can translate the assemblies into 8 languages and a list of suggested books is also available.  Other features are a Bible search engine, religious news, and a calendar of religious events.

Hibbert Assembly Information
A wide-ranging selection of subjects, such as epilepsy, book week, and the martyrdom of Sikh Guru Arjan, are available.  Illustrations and prayers are also used in addition to the stories.

FastTrack
This interactive website produced by CAFOD connects young people in England, Wales and West Africa through web and sms links.  A free pack of resources is available to teachers and youth leaders.

Project Related - Agenda 21, Waste Minimisation and Sustainable Living

The theme for this year's World Environment Day is water - two billion people are dying for it.  The Teacher's Corner at Earthday.net is full of practical classroom ideas for activities around this theme.  Lots of water-related stories from children around the world are available to download too.  [It's a US-based site so any freebies offered are not really an option for UK-based readers.]

CREATE
The Centre for Research, Education and Training in Energy now has dedicated pages for teachers and young people.  CREATE is a not for profit organisation promoting energy efficiency and sustainable development.

Green Choices
Find the Schools section to access links to learning about green perspectives, environmental teaching resources and tips on how schools can be more environmentally friendly.  Also contains a 2 minute questionnaire 'How green are you?' suitable for all ages.

Global Footprints

ADEC is currently introducing this resource in Aylesbury Vale on behalf of CSE and Aylesbury Vale District Council. See PROJECTS page. Project Related - Anti-Racism

A recent edition of Global Express tackles the question of the war on Iraq.  You can download it from the Global Express website.

Cyberschoolbus offers useful teaching resources and links for the teaching of anti-racist themes.

The United Nations and MTV have joined forces to encourage young people find ways to combat racism and promote tolerance in their lives.

The Human Rights Education Associates website has some fascinating links and selected learning materials for teaching about discrimination

Kick It Out is football's anti-racism campaign.  Find out more about how it works to eliminate racism from the 'beautiful game'.

Respect for All

ARRC

ADEC has the great opportunity to be situated within the ARRC building. ARRC (Aylesbury Recycling and Re-use Centre) recycles aluminium foil and cans, refurbishes old tools, recycles paper and collects scrap suitable for use in arts and crafts in schools, colleges etc. They also provide sheltered work opportunities for adult volunteers with learning disabilities.

ARRC also has a scrapstore which is an Aladdin's cave of inexpensive, exciting and unusual material suitable for use in creative activities.

Low-Impact Living Initiative (LILI)

Low-Impact Living Initiative (LILI) is dedicated to helping protect the global environment by promoting sustainable alternatives to various aspects of everyday life. A not-for-profit organisation based in Buckinghamshire LILI has the aim of helping people to reduce their impact on the environment. They do this through courses, publishing books and manuals, selling green products, attending local authority events and providing free information sheets on their website.
